Due to some recent events, I've decided to write a guide on software you can acquire to protect yourself from malicious computer threats.

Most of the software is free, but could also have more features once you buy them.

#1 Malewarebytes Free/$24.95

Malewarebytes is very useful to have, it is free and allows you to schedule scans so that your computer is always scanned regularly with their up-to-date databases. The free version allows you to do a full computer scan, or scan individual folders or files. The paid version provides active protection and a flash scan that checks important system files.

#2 Microsoft Security Essentials Free

Now here's another completely FREE anti-virus for Windows users. I personally have not/do not use it, but it is a great way to add security, and I've heard nothing but good from MSE users.

OK, now that we have protection down we are safe right?

Not exactly.. Hackers today know about all these anti-viruses, and know that the anti-viruses are updating daily, thus hackers update their viruses. When viruses are "fresh off the oven" most hackers tend to obfuscate the virus's code to make it FUD so that anti-viruses will not be able to detect it.

So now we need to protect your information, in any case. (infected or safe)

#3 KeyScrambler Free/$29.99/$44.99

Great tool that I myself have purchased and use constantly.

Major benefits: Defeats keyloggers known or unknown. Realtime encryption of your keystroke stream is displayed live in the unobtrusive interface so you know how and when KeyScrambler is working

#4 Teamviewer Free

This program isn't protection against viruses, however may be helpful time-to-time. What Teamviewer allows you to do is get assistance from other people using remote control. For example if you have a problem with your computer, your friend can use teamviewer to get on your computer, control the mouse and view the screen to assist you into fixing the error.

Helpful tips:

+ When infected, cut off your internet connection before booting up your computer. Most viruses log information while you are online/offline and store it somewhere on your computer, making it so the hacker can retrieve it at anytime. So if you are not connected to the internet, the hacker cannot retrieve information.

+ DO NOT TRANSFER FILES USING A USB. People say all the time that if you cannot download something, use a USB/Flash drive to transfer files. But modern viruses have a function called USB-Spread that allows the virus to infect a USB Drive as soon as it's connected, and then spread to all computers that the USB connects to. Instead, use a CD or you can even use Teamviewer's LAN function that allows you to control computers in your household without being connected to the internet.

+ Have important accounts stored on a mobile device.

My steam account is linked to an E-Mail that I made and only use on my iPod, thus, the hacker would have to gain access to my iPod in order to hack my steam accounts. If at anytime the mobile device is damadged and you do not remember the information the the account, you can always recover it using billing information, etc.

Anyways if you have any questions/comments PM me or just post here. If you have any advice on what I can add/fix/update please post here as well. Stay secure!

This thread looks so sketchy lol.. if anyone wants to fix my horrendous formatting.. go right ahead.
