Alright, as many of you guys may or may not have known, I was kinda trashing the new DmC game because of the new style they gave Dante. And I gotta say it was pretty foolish for me to do so. I haven't played much of the DMC series before, and this is the first one I've really gotten into so I thought I'd take my crack at writing a review for it.
The story is about a younger Dante, living in a corrupted world where a demon king more or less runs things. Dante is living the fast life, going to clubs and sleeping with women, all whilst living in a trailer on a boardwalk. One of those fateful days comes by a demon fucks up all your shit. Dante's trailer is ripped from the boardwalk and Dante jumps in, with random objects coming by just in time to cover his junk, he throws his clothes on and gets ready to go to work.
In all honestly the opening sequence was pretty funny and I found the rest of the level to be a nice intro to the game, allowing you to get a feel for the controls and combo system without being too slow paced and boring. Parts of the story are a little meh, and even though I'm not really knowledgable about the DMC universe, even I knew who the guy in the little hat was (not gonna spoil it for those yet to play )
I haven't gotten very far into the story, just a few chapters/levels in. However I've gotten a lot of playtime into it for the short while I've had it. The game play is pretty smooth, the combo system works great. There's some cheesy one liners, here and there, and some of the scenes just seem a little uneccessary. The game isn't without its humor however, especially with a little nod to the original DMC games in the first level. So far I've been pretty pulled in by the story itself, even though as I said it can be pretty predictable at times. But the whole take on Dante trying to find out who he is, and diving into his past was pretty cool. The weapons themselves are also great. For the ones that I've unlocked so far, they have their uses not just in fighting but with the environments themselves which was nice to see. The upgrade system is also pretty cool, as you can upgrade all your weapons and abilities with enough exp basically. The music is also very fitting for the game and its setting, though you may not be a fan of dubstep, you'll find that when you get into a fight its very appropriate and works well for what's going on. And even thought I'm still not really a fan of the new look for Dante, I understand that it is a prequel to the rest of the DMC games so it really makes sense that he looks the way he does.
So for you tl;dr guys: Combo system is great, gameplay is fairly smooth, the story is good though a tad predictable at times, music works well for the setting of the game, nice weapons, dig the upgrade system. Overall I'd give DmC an 89/100
